Today, we are going to share notes on SyllogismSyllogism topic which is one of the most important topics of reasoning in competitive exams. 

Syllogism questions are very common and frequently asked in major exams like IBPS PO Clerk, SBI Clerk, SSC 10+2, SSC CGL, MAT, CMat etc. Through different kinds of Syllogism questions an examiner assesses candidates' reasoning skills and the more a candidate is aware of different approach the more will he able to solve a blood relation question fast and with ease.

Syllogism - Syllogism is a form of reasoning in which a conclusion/conclusions is/are drawn from the given statements.
Syllogism is an important topic in almost every competitive exam. And, usually it is considered as a difficult topic for various reasons. It is not tough or difficult if you understand the basic concepts clearly. You can solve the problems very easily in seconds.

Syllogism Questions Answers

Directions (1 ­ 15): In each question below are given two statements followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements, disregarding commonly known facts. 
Give answer ­ 
1) If only conclusion I follows 
2) If only conclusion II follows 
3) If either conclusion I or II follows 
4) If neither conclusion I nor II follows 
5) If both conclusions I and II follow 

1. Statements: 
  • Some spoons are glasses. 
  • Some fruits are spoons. 
Conclusions: 
  • Some glasses are fruits. 
  • All fruits are spoons. 
Ans: neither conclusion I nor II follows
Exp: (note: since their is no negative conclusion, we need not to draw an alternate diagram) 

2. Statements: 
  • Some units are chapters. 
  • All books are units. 
Conclusions: 
  • No chapter is a book. 
  • Some books are chapters. 
Ans: either conclusion I or II follows

3. Statements: 
  • Some colleges are schools. 
  • All schools are universities. 
Conclusions: 
  • Some colleges are universities.
  • All universities are colleges. 
Ans: only conclusion I follows
4. Statements: 
  • All branches are creepers. 
  • All creepers are roots. 
Conclusions: 
  • All branches are roots. 
  • Some roots are branches. 
Ans: both conclusions I and II follow 
5. Statements: 
  • All eyes are heads. 
  • Some heads are ears. 
Conclusions: 
  • Some ears are not heads.
  • All ears are heads. 
Ans: both conclusions I and II follow  
6. Statements: 
  • All sweets are biscuits. 
  • No biscuits is a mobile. 
Conclusions: 
  • Some sweets are mobiles. 
  • No sweet is a mobile. 
Ans: only conclusion II follows
7. Statements: 
  • Some bangles are bags. 
  • No purse is a bangle. 
Conclusions: 
  • Some purses are bags. 
  • No bag is a purse. 
Ans: either conclusion I or II follows 
8. Statements: 
  • All boats are ships. 
  • Some boats are baloons. 
Conclusions: 
  • No ship is a balloon. 
  • All baloons are boats 
Ans: only conclusion II follows
9. Statements: 
  • All liers are lawyers. 
  • No lier is a Judge. 
Conclusions
  • All Judges are lawyers. 
  • Some judges are lawyers. 
Ans: neither conclusion I or II follows.

10. Statements: 
  • All boys are men. 
  • No man is a girl. 
Conclusions: 
  • No boy is a girl.
