Answer

Answer 1 : b
Let the average expenditure of all the nine be Rs. X
Then, 12 × 8 + (X + 8) = 9X
Therefore X = 13.
Total money spent = 9X = Rs. (9 × 13) = Rs. 117

Answer 2 : c
Average = (76 + 65 + 82 + 67 + 85)/5 = 375/5 = 75
Hence average = 75.

Answer 3 : b
Average = (10 + 15 + 20 + 25 + 30)/5 = 100/5 = 20
Hence average = 20.

Answer 4 : b
Clearly we have
Therefore 137 + x = 144
Therefore x = 144 - 137 = 7

Answer 5 : c
Excluded number = (27 × 5) - (25 × 4)
=135 - 100
=35

Answer 6 : d
Average after 11 innings = 36
Required number of runs = ( 36 × 11) - (32 × 10)
= 396 - 320
= 76.

Answer 7 : d
Let A,B,C represent their respective weights. Then, we have
A + B + C = (45 × 3) = 135 (i)
A + B = (40 × 2) = 80          (ii)
B + C = (43 × 2) = 86          (iii)
Adding (ii) and (iii) we get: A + 2B + C = 166 (iv)
Subtracting (i) from (iv) we get B = 31
Therefore B’s weight = 31 kg

Answer 8 : b
Let P, Q and R represent their respective monthly incomes. Then, we have
P + Q = (5050 × 2) = 10100 (i)
Q + R = (6250 × 2) =12500 (ii)
P + R = (5200 × 2) = 10400 (iii)
Adding (i),(ii) and (iii), we get: 2(P + Q + R) = 33000 (iv)
Subtracting (ii) from (iv) we get p = 4000
Therefore p’s monthly income = Rs.4000

Answer 9 : c
Age of teacher = (37 × 15 - 36 × 14)years
= 51 years

Answer 10 : c
Manager’s monthly salary = Rs. (1600 × 21 - 1500 × 20)
=Rs. 3600

Answer 11 : b
Total weight increased= (8 × 2.5) kg = 20 kg
Weight of new person= (65 + 20) kg = 85 kg

Answer 12 : a
The total of 11 results = 11 × 50 = 550
The total of first 6 results= 6 × 49 = 294
The total of last 6 results= 6 × 52 = 312
The 6th result is common to both;
Sixth result = 294 + 312 - 550 = 56.

Answer 13 : b
Solution: Direct method:
Average=( 13 × 50 + 15 × 60 + 12 × 65)/(13 + 15 + 12)
= Rs 58.25.

Answer 14 : b
If the average weight is increased by 3 kg, then the sum of weights increases by 3 × 4 = 12 kg.
And thus increase in weight is due to the extra weight included due to the inclusion of new person.
Therefore weight of new man = 120 + 12 = 132 kg.

Answer 15 : a
Required run rate =

Answer 16 : b
Required average =
Answer 17 : a
Total sale for 5 months = Rs. (6435 + 6927 + 6855 + 7230 + 6562) = Rs. 34009.
Required sale = Rs. [ (6500 × 6) - 34009 ]
= Rs. (39000 - 34009)
= Rs. 4991.

Answer 18 : d
Average of 20 numbers = 0.
Sum of 20 numbers (0 × 20) = 0.
It is quite possible that 19 of these numbers may be positive and if their sum is a then 20th number is (-a).

Answer 19 : c
Total weight increased = (8 × 2.5) kg = 20 kg.
Weight of new person = (65 + 20) kg = 85 kg.

Answer 20 : a
Let the average age of the whole team by x years.
11x - (26 + 29) = 9(x -1)
11x - 9x = 46
2x = 46
x = 23.
So, average age of the team is 23 years.
