Floyd Mayweather beats Manny Pacquiao to
won ‘Fight of the Century’
1. American
boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has won the unified World Welterweight
title of World Boxing Council, World Boxing Organisation and World Boxing
Association.
2. To
win this title he defeated Manny Pacquiao from Philippines on a unanimous
decision with Judges Scores of 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112 in 12 rounds of
intense boxing.
3. The
legendary bout termed as ‘Fight of the Century’ was played at iconic MGM Grand,
Las Vegas.
4. This
fight was also the highest watched and most revenue generating with almost 400
million dollars of all time

A.P & Telangana introduce 5
lakh rupees Accident Insurance Scheme for transport drivers
1. Andhra
Pradesh and Telangana states have jointly launched a new five-lakh rupees
Accident Insurance Scheme for transport drivers.
2. The
scheme came into on 1 May 2015 coinciding with the May Day (International
Labour Day).
Under the Accident Insurance Scheme
1. The
registered transport drivers will get Rs 5 lakh insurance cover.
2. The
enrolled will get an accident death insurance of Rs 2 lakh under the Pradhan
Mantri Bima Suraksha Yojana by opening a Jan Dhan Yojana account.
3. While
the insurer will give Rs 3 lakh for which both states government will ink a
MoU.
DRDO scientist Sathish Reddy conferred
with prestigious RIN fellowship
1. Senior
DRDO scientist Satheesh Reddy has been conferred with the prestigious
Fellowship of the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN).
2. RIN
has recognised Mr. Reddy for his work in the field of inertial and
satellite-based navigation and avionics technologies.
3. With
this he also became the first Indian to get the fellowship from Royal Institute
of Navigation.
4. Currently,
Dr Sathish Reddy is Director at Research Centre Imarat (RCI) of DRDO.
Haryana Government launches 7 IT based
e-services in state
1. The
Haryana government launched seven e-services and software applications to
provide hassle free and graft-free administration to the people of the state.
2. Chief
Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the e-services would help translate the dream
of ‘Digital Haryana’ into reality.
3. The
seven services include e-Stamping, Jeevan Pramaan, Revised State Portal, Aadhaar-enabled
biometric Attendance System, Mobile app and Aadhaar-linked registration of
birth.
4. Haryana
is the first state in the country to launch some services on such large scale.
14th edition of Indo-French naval exercise
VARUNA concludes
1. 14th
edition of Indo-French naval exercise Varuna concluded on 2 May 2015 in Goa.
2. The
naval exercise concluded in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant
Parsekar along with Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief
Western Naval Command.
3. In
this edition of exercise, French Navy was represented by the Aircraft Carrier
Charles de Gaulle and Indian side was represented by Aircraft carrier INS
Viraat.
Indira Gandhi International Airport world’s
best airport
1. Delhi’s
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has been adjudged the world’s best
airport for the year 2014.
2. Airports Council International (ACI) presented the Airport Service
Quality (ASQ) award to IGIA under the category of handling 25 to 40
million passengers per annum.
CNR Rao conferred with Japan’s highest
civilian award
1. Eminent
scientist and Bharat Ratna awardee Chintamani Nagesa Ramachandra Rao was
conferred with Japan’s highest civilian award the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold
and Silver Star.
2. He
was bestowed with this award for his outstanding contributions to science and
Indo-Japanese science cooperation.
3. Rao
is a National Research Professor, Linus Pauling Research Professor.
4. In
2014, he was awarded with India’s highest civilian award of India Bharat Ratna
along with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
