Joginder Nagar to be Himachal’s first free Wi-Fi town
1. Himachal Pradesh’s Joginder Nagar, famous for being Asia’s only town having three hydro-power stations, will soon offer free Wi-Fi facility to all internet users, locals as well as tourists.
2. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said free Wi-Fi facility will be made operational within one and a half months time.
3. It’s a self-propelled initiative of the local panchayat, which had tied-up with BSNL to bring the new age technology to the door steps of rural population in the area.

Surender Singh takes charge as DG of CISF
1. Surender Singh takes charge as DG of Central Industrial Security Force Senior IPS officer Surender Singh took over as the new Director General (DG) of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
2. Order was issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
3. Surender Singh will succeed Arvind Ranjan.

National Supercomputing Mission
1. There are Nine (9) supercomputers from India that figured in the list of top 500 supercomputers according to the 44th edition of TOP 500 list, released in November 2014 (released twice-yearly), of the world’s most powerful supercomputers.
2.The Cabinet has recently approved the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) with a total outlay of Rs.4500 crore for a period of 7 years.
3. The mission would be implemented jointly by Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY).
4. The National Supercomputing Mission would be an enabler for the Digital India vision of the Government by making available huge data storage space and linking systems together.
5. The mission envisages manufacturing of supercomputing systems in India and may play a lead role in Make in India vision.

Karnataka gets cheapest solar power plant shivanasamudra
1. The historic site of Shivanasamudra, which has Asia’s first hydroelectric station, is set to become a hub of solar power as Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd.
2. (KPCL) is in the process of commissioning a 10 MW grid-connected solar power plant there.
3. The new plant, which is in the final stages of completion, is expected to be commissioned by mid-May.
4. The highlight is that this solar plant is said to be the cheapest in the State as it is being set up at a cost of just about Rs. 7 crore a MW, as against the previous solar project’s cost that varied from Rs. 12.3 crore to Rs. 19 crore a MW.

Labour Day Observed on 1st May
1. May Day, also known as ‘Labour Day’ or ‘International Workers’ Day’, is an occasion when we pay tribute to the contribution that workers have made to progress, prosperity and well- being of our society.
2. May Day or Labour day – celebrated in around 80 countries to mark the labour movement and worker’s rights – has its origins in the 1886 Haymarket Massacre in Chicago.

Bangalore City Railway station to be renamed after Sangolli Rayanna
1. Bangalore City Railway Station has been renamed as “Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna” Railway Station.
2. Sangolli Rayanna (15 August 1798 – 26 January 1831) was a prominent warrior from Karnataka, India.
3.Rayanna was born on 15 August 1798.
4. He was the army chief of the Kingdom of Kittur ruled at the time by Rani Chennamma and fought the British East India Company till his death.

Perec named ambassador of TCS World 10000 run
1. The legendary French track and field sprinter, Marie-Jose Perec, has been named the international event ambassador for this year’s TCS World 10K run to be held here on May 17.
2. Perec has won three Olympic gold medals and is the first-ever athlete to win consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 400-m. dash between the years.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik launches free medicine scheme Niramaya
1. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched ‘Niramaya’, a scheme under which 570 different medicines will be provided free of cost to patients in government hospitals.
2. Patients will get 272 kinds of medicines in three state-run medical colleges and 30 district headquarters hospitals.
3. The state government has made a budgetary allocation of Rs 200 crore for distribution of free medicine in 2015-16 and is planning to distribute free medicines for cancer, thalassemia and sickle cell anemia

Scheme guidelines of One Stop Centre Scheme finalized
1. Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), has formulated a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for setting up One Stop Centres (OSC)
2. OSC will be funded from the Nirbhaya Fund.
3. These Centres will be established across the country to provide integrated support and assistance under one roof to women affected by violence, both in private and public spaces in a phased manner.
4. The scheme is being implemented through States/UTs from 1st April 2015.

LOGO for Internal Day of Yoga launched
1. Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister for External Affairs launched the logo for International Day of Yoga
2. The logo was selected by the Committee of Yoga experts constituted by Ministry of AYUSH and has been approved by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi.
3. India will celebrate its 1st International Day of Yoga on 21st June, 2015 and various activities will be carried out all over the world to mark the occasion.

Mohammed bin Nayef appointed as Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia 
1. Mohammed bin Nayef was appointed as Crown Prince and as Deputy Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia by King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud.
2. This appointment relieved Crown Prince Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz from his duties and comes during a major Cabinet reshuffle.

Dr. Pramod Patil & Dr. Ananda Kumar won 2015 Whitley Award for wildlife conservation
1. Two Indians, Dr. Pramod Patil and Dr Ananda Kumar have been awarded with the prestigious 2015 Whitley Awards for their contribution to wildlife conservation in developing countries.
2. Both of them received a Whitley prize worth 35000 pound along with seven other environmentalists at a ceremony in Royal Geographical Society, London.
3. Dr. Pramod Patil was awarded for his work to protect the iconic great Indian bustard (GIB) in the Thar Desert.
4. While, Dr Ananda Kumar received this award for developing innovative communication systems namely Elephant Information Network (EIN) has enabled human-elephant coexistence in southern India.

100 smart cities: Cabinet clears Smart Cities Mission with outlay of Rs 48,000 cr
1. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet cleared the Smart Cities Mission — under which 100 smart cities would be built — and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) for 500 cities with outlays of Rs 48,000 crore and Rs 50,000 crore, respectively.
2. Under the Smart Cities Mission, each selected city would get central assistance of Rs 100 crore per year for five years
3. The aim of the mission is to more efficiently utilise available assets, resources and infrastructure to enhance quality of urban life and provide a clean and sustainable environment.

India ranks 13th in terms of electricity generation from nuclear source
1. There are thirty one countries including India in the world which generate electricity from nuclear source.
2. According to the data published in 2014, by Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), India ranked at 13th position in terms of generation.
