YES Bank opens international office at Abu Dhabi
1. YES Bank, India’s fifth largest private sector bank, announced its international foray by opening its first overseas representative office in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
2. In its first international foray the private sector lender YES Bank today launched a representative office in UAE.
3. Located in Abu Dhabi, the bank will provide services for investment needs of the Indian diaspora in the Gulf city.

BMB conferred with Asian Banker Achievement Award 2015
1. Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) Ltd has won the Asian Banker Achievement Award 2015.
2. It was awarded for Technology Implementation in the category of Best Outsourcing Project (New Bank).
3. The award was received by Usha Ananthasubramanian, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BMB at a function held in Hong Kong during the Asian Banker Summit 2015.

PM Modi’s Jan Dhan model: US, Russia may soon follow
1. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana programme, the drive launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure at least one member in every household in the country had a bank account, could soon emerge as a worldwide template for achieving rapid financial inclusion.
2. The Financial Action Task Force, a global anti-terror financing agency, has given initial approval to a paper by India on how it achieved the task in a few months while adhering to know your customer (KYC) norms.
3. The US, Russia, Spain and the Netherlands have extended support to the paper.

ITBP Inspector Manjeet Singh gets Shaurya Chakra for foiling Kabul terror bid
1. President Pranab Mukherjee awarded the ‘Shaurya Chakra’ gallantry medal to ITBP Inspector Manjeet Singh who led his commandos in repulsing an audacious terrorist attack on the Indian Consulate in Afghanistan’s Herat province last year.
2. Singh was the contingent commander of the ITBP team which, in the wee hours of May 23, 2014 at the Indian Consulate in Herat, came under heavy gunfire and rocket propelled grenade (RPG) shell attacks from terrorists.

Ratan Tata picks up stake in Xiaomi
1. Ratan Tata has acquired a stake in Chinese handset maker Xiaomi
2. It is the first investment by any Indian in the Smartphone maker.
3. He has already made personal investments in homegrown e-commerce players like Snapdeal, Urban Ladder, Bluestone and Cardekho.com. In March this year, he also invested in mobile commerce firm Paytm.

Indian-origin scientist wins Heinz Award
1. An Indian-origin scientist at MIT, who has developed artificial human microlivers for drug testing, has won a prestigious $2,50,000 Heinz award for her work in tissue engineering and disease detection.
2. Sangeeta Bhatia at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has been named the recipient of the 2015 Heinz Award for Technology, the Economy, and Employment.

BCCI nominates Rohit Sharma for Arjuna award
1. BCCI took the decision to put forth Rohit’s name to the government for the Arjuna Award
2. The 27-year-old Mumbaikar scored a brilliant 264 against Sri Lanka last season — the highest score by anyone in the world in ODI cricket — at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
3. He is the only batsman to have scored two ODI double hundreds — his first one coming against Australia in 2013.

Norway’s Magnus Carlsen wins Shamkir chess tournament in Azerbaijan
1. World champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway won the Shamkir Chess tournament held in Azerbaijan.
2. With this win, Magnus Carlsen took his rating to 2875 points and Viswanathan Anand entered the 2800 rating club to gain number two in world ranking.

DRDO Bags National Intellectual Property Award-2015
1. Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), has been awarded the prestigious National Intellectual Property Award 2015 in the category “Top R&D Organisations for Patents”.
2. It is notable that DRDO had received Thomson Reuters India Innovation Award twice, in the year 2011 and recently in 2014, based on size of patent portfolio, success rate, extent of globalization and influence of innovation.

Indian Army conducts Akraman–II defence exercise in Rajasthan
1. Indian Army conducted a major exercise ‘Akraman-II’ in Rajasthan.
2. The exercise was conducted by the Chetak Corps, a part of South Western Command based in Bhatinda, Punjab.
3. The exercise aimed to test a new generation of weaponry and platforms which are employed in the desert region to provide ‘real time battle and situational awareness’ to its commanders.

Yashwant Sinha gets highest French honour of Officier de la Légion d’Honneur
1. French Government has honoured former Union Finance Minister and veteran BJP leader Yashwant Sinha with Officier de la Légion d’Honneur (Officer of the Legion of Honour).
2. It is the highest French civilian distinction bestowed upon him in recognition of his international action taken during his stint as Union Minister of Finance, Minister External Foreign Affairs and for his invaluable contribution to international issues.

Indian Navy names Porbandar base in Gujarat after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
1. The Indian Navy’s new base in Porbandar Dwarka II will be inaugurated after two weeks and officially named INS Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in the memory of the late leader.
2. The Porbandar base is the second naval base in the country to be named after a political leader after INS Netaji Subhash in Kolkata.

Chennai-born Raja Rajeswari is New York’s first Indian-American woman judge
1. Chennai-born Raja Rajeswari has been sworn-in as a criminal court judge in New York by Mayor Bill de Blasio
2. She becomes the first India-born woman to be appointed a judge in New York City.
3. She previously worked with the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office for her entire career in several bureaus including Criminal Court, Narcotics, Supreme Court, and the Sex Crimes Special Victims Bureau, where she last served as Deputy Chief.

Capgemini acquires IGATE for $4 bn in all-cash deal
1. The Paris-headquartered Capgemini has announced the acquisition of New Jersey-based IGATE, which has operations in India, for $4 billion in cash.
2. The deal, one of the largest in the Indian information technology sector, will see the exit of IGATE co-founders Ashok Trivedi and Sunil Wadhwani, along with private equity firm Apax Partners.
3. The deal will be financed through cash, debt and sale of new shares, which will dilute existing shareholdings by no more than six per cent.
4. The acquisition will provide Capgemini offshore capabilities to compete with IBM, Accenture and large Indian infotech services players.

NMCE launches auction-based forward trading in rubber
1. Bringing hopes of better prices to rubber farmers reeling from price fall, India’s first exchange-traded auction-based forward contracts platform has been launched by the National Multi-Commodity Exchange (NMCE).
2. Rubber is the first commodity to be traded on the NMCE platform
3. The minimum period is 12 days, and the maximum 60 days.
4. However, the maximum period, has been limited to 30 days now, on a trial basis.

Google India is best employer
1. Google India has been awarded with the Randstad Award 2015 for ‘Most Attractive Employer in India’, which is followed by Sony India.
2. The fifth edition of the Randstad Awards event was held in Delhi. Microsoft India has been inducted into the Hall of Fame category this year for winning the title for four consecutive years.
