Gulshan Rai takes charge as India’s first
cyber security chief April 1, 2015
1. Gulshan
Rai on 1 April 2015 took charge as India’s first cyber security chief under the
Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as Special Secretary for cyber security.
2. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi in March 2015 had created this new post in PMO.
3. Prior
to this appointment, he was Director-General Computer Emergency Response Team
(CERT) at the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY).

Punjab Government launches Padho Punjab -
Khedo Punjab Mission
1. Punjab
Government has launched ‘Padho Punjab- Khedo Punjab Mission’ or Learn Punjab-
Play Punjab Mission.
2. It
is a special mission launched to provide school students a separate period in
the curriculum for playing along with studies.
3. The
purpose of the mission is to encourage more youngsters towards sports to
produce quality players for the country.
4. Under
this mission a 40 to 50 minute special period has been kept for sports. During
this period students of middle schools will be taught various games including
the games played locally.
5. Mission’s
pilot project was launched by State Education Minister Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema
at a government girl’s school in Rupnagar district of state.
Pakistan 8th most dangerous country in the
world : Country Threat Index
1. Recently
released Country Threat Index (CTI) by US-based intelligence think tank- Intel
Center has placed Pakistan eighth in the list of the most dangerous countries
in the world as of March 2015.

10 Most Dangerous Countries in the world Rank Country Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, Somalia,
Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Ukraine and Egypt
3. The
rankings were prepared based upon CTI after examining the volume of terrorist
and rebel alerts, messaging traffic, videos, photos, incidents and the number
of killed and injured in a country over the past 30 days.
New Zealand cricketer Kyle Mills retires
from international cricket
1. New
Zealand cricketer Kyle Mills on 1 April 2014 announced retirement from
international cricket.
2. He
made this announcement after New Zealand lost to Australia in ICC World Cup
2015 final.
3. Kyle
Mills cricket career spanned 14 years. In his entire cricket career he had
played 19 Tests matches, 170 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 42 T20s.
Muhammadu Buhari elected as President of
Nigeria
1. Former
military ruler Genral Muhammadu Buhari won the Presidential election in
Nigeria.
2. He
defeated incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan by more than two million votes.
3. With
this historic win, Buhari became the first opposition candidate in history of
Nigeria to win a presidential election.
RBI accredited the amalgamation of ING
Vysya Bank with Kotak Mahindra Bank
1. The
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 1 April 2015 sanctioned the scheme of
amalgamation of ING Vysya Bank Ltd. with Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. The Scheme
will come into drive with impact from 1 April 2015.
2. With
this sanction, all branches of ING Vysya Bank will functionality as branches of
Kotak Mahindra Bank with impact from 1 April 2015.
3. The
Scheme was sanctioned in train of the powers contained in Sub-area (4) of
Section 44A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
4. This
approval of RBI for the merger deal would create Kotak because the nation’s
fourth largest confidential sector lender after HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis

World’s oldest individual, Misao Okawa,
dies at age 117

Odisha CM launches low priced meal scheme
for city poor
1. The
lot-hyped ‘Aahar’ affordable meal scheme was at present launched by Odisha
authorities for offering subsidised meals to city poor.
2. Patnaik
announced that 'Aahar' will provide rice and dalma during lunch time to the
poor at Rs 5 in Bhubaneswar,
Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur.

government aims to provide cheap meals to some 25,000 people per day during the
lunch time.
4. The Aahar
scheme is being sponsored by Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar,
Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) in Rourkela and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure
Development Corporation (IDCO) in Sambalpur. Tata Steel is supporting the
scheme in Berhampur,

Telangana State Co-op Apex Bank shaped
1. Andhra
Pradesh State Cooperative Bank Ltd (APCOB) has been reconstituted into two
banks following the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
2. With
impact from April 2, 2015, it’ll functionality two separate state cooperative
banks – Telangana State Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd (TSCAB) and APCOB for the
residual State of AP.
