Oxford dictionary adds words ‘Ride-Share’, ‘Unboxing’, ‘Bioprinting’ and ‘Vishing’ related to Technology
Recently Oxford
dictionary has added words ride-share, unboxing, bioprinting and vishing related
to Technology in the new list.
Oxford dictionary defined these words as
- Ride-Share - to participate in an arrangement in which a passenger travels in a private vehicle driven by its owner, for free or for a fee, especially as arranged by means of a website or app.
- Bioprinting - The use of 3D printing technology with materials that incorporate viable living cells. For e.g. to produce tissue for reconstructive surgery.
- Unboxing - An act or instance of removing a newly purchased product from its packaging and examining its features, typically when filmed and shared on a social media site.
- Vishing - It is like phishing, but using phone calls or voice messages instead of emails to trick people in revealing sensitive information.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed sworn in as Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir
- Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on 1 March 2015 was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Peoples Democratic Party-Bhartiya Janta Party (PDP-BJP) coalition government of Jammu & Kashmir.
- He became 9th Chief Minister of J&K and 12th Chief Minister as tenure wise.
- He was administered oath of office and secrecy by Governor Narinder Nath Vohra at oath taking ceremony held at Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu University.
- Mufti Sayeed’s swearing-in as Chief Minister brings to an end to 49 days of Governor’s rule imposed on the state.
- Earlier in January 2015, Governor’s rule imposed as per Section 92 of state Constitution after the no party was able to form government following hung verdict of assembly election of 2014.
Kannan Ramesh appointed as Judicial Commissioner to Supreme Court of Singapore
- Indian-origin lawyer, Kannan Ramesh has been appointed as Judicial Commissioner to Singapore’s Supreme Court bench.
- He will assume office from 22 May 2015 and have tenure of two years. Prior to this appointment, he was the managing partner of Tan Kok Quan.
- With this appointment Singapore’s Supreme Court will have a total of 10 Judicial Commissioners, 13 Judges and 5 senior judges.

- In 1990, Ramesh graduated from the National University of Singapore.
- As a lawyer, he specializes in legal cases related to insolvency and restructuring, dispute resolution, and international arbitration.
- In 2013, he was appointed a senior counsel for his recognition as the best and most skilful advocates in the legal profession.
Winners of Dubai ATP Tennis Championship 2015
Men’s singles
- Roger Federer of Switzerland won the ATP Tennis Championship Men’s single title held in Dubai. In the final match, he defeatedNovak Djokovic of Serbia by score of 6–3, 7–5.
- It was Roger Federer’s seventh win in Dubai ATP Tennis men’s single’s title. Earlier, he had won in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2012 and 2014.
Women’s singles
- Romanian professional tennis player Simona Halep won the ATP Tennis Championship women’s single title held in Dubai.
- In the final match, she defeated Karolína Plíšková of Czech Republic by score of 6-4, 7-6.
Men’s doubles
- Rohan Bopanna (India) and Daniel Nestor (Canada) won the Dubai ATP Tennis Championship men’s doubles title.
- In the final match they defeated Aihsan-Ul-Haq Qureshi (Pakistan) and Nined Zimonjic (Serbia) by score of 6-4, 6-1.
Women’s doubles
- Tímea Babos (Hungary) and Kristina Mladenovic (France) won the Dubai ATP Tennis Championship women’s doubles title.
- In the final match they defeated Garbiñe Muguruza (Spain) and Carla Suárez Navarro (Spain) by score of 6-3, 6-2
DAC gives nod to MCMV project
- Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on 28 February 2015 gave approval for afresh Mine Counter Measure Vessel (MCMV) project worth over Rs 32,000 crore.
- This decision was taken by DAC meeting chaired by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
- MCMV project will built specialized vessels for the Indian Navy as per Make in India policy at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) in collaboration with a foreign manufacturer. These ships will weigh around 600 to 1,000 tonnes and will be used to dismantle antiship mines.
DAC also gave approval for
- Buying one C-130J medium transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF) at a cost of Rs. 530 crore. This aircraft will replace a C-130 J which had crashed in 2014 near Gwalior.
- Buying 38 more Pilatus trainer aircraft from Switzerland a cost of Rs. 1,500 crore. These trainer aircraft will train IAF fighter pilots.
- It should be noted that DAC is the apex body for clearing defence procurement proposals forward by the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
