World Health Day 2015 Observed Globally 
1. World Health Day (WHD) 2015 was observed globally on 7 April 2015.
2. The theme for the year is “From farm to plate, make food safe.”
3. The theme was selected by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to bring focus on growing global burden of food borne diseases and underscore the need for coordinated cross-border action across the entire food supply chain i.e. from farm to plate.
4. The day is celebrated every year since it was first celebrated in 1950 to mark the anniversary of the WHO formation in 1948.

1. The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is concerned with international public health.
2. It was established on 7 April 1948
3. Headquarter - Geneva, Switzerland.


4. The head of WHO is Margaret Chan.

Yuvraj singh Set to Become Businessman with Youwecan Venture
1. Cricketer Yuvraj Singh is set to start his new innings as businessman with YouWeCan Ventures, aiming to support young entrepreneurs by investing in startups across sectors.
2. Yuvraj will put about INR 50 crore – mostly his own money – over a period of 3-5 years in the fund, YouWeCan Ventures.
3. The fund is expected to raise around INR 300 crore from other investors during the period.
4. YouWeCan Ventures will mainly fund startups in sports products, healthcare, travel and tourism, services and fashion, e-commerce and hospitality.
5. The plan is to offer seed capital ranging from INR 10 lakh to INR 25 lakh.


Steel Research & Technology Mission of India (SRTMI)
1. Steel Companies Sign Agreement with Ministry of Steel for Setting Up of Steel Research & Technology Mission of India SRTMI
2. The SRTMI is an industry-led initiative in association with the Steel Ministry to promote collaborative research programmes in steel sector. Which aims at increasing investment on Research & Development in the steel sector from present level of 0.2-0.3 % of turnover progressively towards the international benchmark of 1-2 % of turnover.
3. SRTMI will carry out R&D in priority areas of national importance covering best usage of available raw materials & conservation of natural resources, optimum energy conservation & minimum emissions, innovations and in-house development of design, engineering & manufacturing facilities of key steel plant equipments.
The initial corpus for setting up of SRTMI is to the tune of Rs. 200 crore .

Ministry of Culture takes over the management of Lalit Kala Akademi
1. Over the past few years, Ministry of Culture had been receiving complaints regarding alleged administrative and financial irregularities in Lalit Kala Akademi which is one of the Ministry’s autonomous organizations.
2. The Akademi’s General Council and Executive Board are also non-functional since 2013 due to certain court cases. Also, the Akademi’s principal executive officer i.e., the Secretary is currently under suspension with departmental inquiry proceeding having been ordered against him by the Akademi’s Chairman
3. Keeping in view the Akademi’s beleaguered administration and the substantial public interest involved in the Akademi’s vibrant and transparent functioning, the Central Government through the Ministry of Culture has invoked the relevant provisions in Lalit Kala Akademi’s Memorandum of Association for taking over the Akademi’s management with effect from 1st April, 2015.

XIOMI partner with Amazon and Snapdeal
1. Chinese hone maker Xiaomi ended its exclusive partnership with Flipkart .
2. Now it joined hands with new online partners Amazon and Snapdeal to sell its products in the country.
3. Xiaomi’s India head Manu Jain announced these new partnerships on Twitter and tweeted that customers can now purchase Mi products from Flipkart, Snapdeal, Amazon, The Mobile Stores and Airtel India stores.


4. The company has just completed five years of operations in the country.


First of Scorpene Submarines-Kalvari ‘Undocked’
1. Kalvari, first of the Indian Navy’s Scorpene class stealth submarines being built under the Project 75, under collaboration with M/s DCNS, France, achieved a major milestone with her ‘undocking’ at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL).
2. The project 75 which has already seen a delay of almost 40 months has now been brought on track and the delivery schedule for the successive submarines have been reduced.
3. Kalavari scheduled to commissioned In Indian Navy is in year 2016

Government of India launches a Virtual Call Centre of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)
1. Government of India has launched a Virtual Call Centre today.
2. The Virtual Call Centre is aimed to provide a platform to all the stakeholders ie students, teachers and the general public to seek any clarification regarding working of the NCTE,
3. Teacher education courses and any other issues including any complaints/grievances pertaining to NCTE
4. The Virtual Call Centre will operate from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM every day
5. The caller can contact through a toll-free number 1800110039.
6. Four Regional Offices of the NCTE functioning at Jaipur, Bangalore, Bhopal, and Bhubaneshwar.
7. The launch of Virtual Call Centre will be another step on the part of Government of India to provide transparency in the governance and also speedy redressal of grievances.
8. The NCTE is a regulatory body mandated to achieve planned and coordinated development of teacher education in the country.

China extends support to Nepal to develop Buddha’s birthplace
1. China has extended support to Nepal to develop Lord Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini, a town close to the Indo-Nepal border.
2. Buddha Birth Place is a major tourism and pilgrimage centre & China will help in infrastructure development.
3. Siddhartha Gautama, the Lord Buddha, was born in 623 B.C. in the famous gardens of Lumbini, which have been declared as a heritage site by UNESCO
4. Nepal plans to build a “special development zone” to transform the town of Lumbini into a sprawling tourism, pilgrimage and education centre modelled on Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Saurabh Vijay appointed Adviser to World Bank ED
1. IAS officer Saurabh Vijay is appointed as Adviser to Executive Director of World Bank in Washington.
2. Mr. Vijay, a 1998 batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre.
3. Presently  he is working at President Secretariat.
4. He has been appointed for a period of three years from the date of taking over charge of the post, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training ( DoPT).
