RBI allows differential interest rate on deposits
1. Banks may soon pay you more interest if you place a "without pre-mature withdrawal deposit" of more than Rs. 15 lakh.
2. The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday said banks will have the discretion to offer differential interest rates based on whether the term deposits are with or without-premature-withdrawal-facility, subject to conditions.
3. While all term deposits of individuals (held singly or jointly) of Rs. 15 lakh and below should, necessarily, have premature withdrawal facility, the RBI said for all term deposits above Rs. 15 lakh banks can offer deposits without the option of premature withdrawal as well.
4. Banks will pay more interest to depositors who exercise the without premature withdrawal option.
5. Banks should disclose in advance the schedule of interest rates payable on deposits, that is, all deposits mobilized by banks should be strictly in conformity with the published schedule.
6. The banks should have a Board approved policy with regard to interest rates on deposits including deposits with differential rates of interest and ensure that the interest rates offered are reasonable, consistent, transparent and available for supervisory review/scrutiny as and when required.

Former Nepal PM Surya Bahadur Thapa Dies
1. Former Nepal Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa passed away at Medanta Hospital here on Thursday.
2. He was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon on March 29
3. 87 year old Mr. Thapa served as Prime Minister of Nepal for five terms, under three different Kings, in a politcal career spanning more than 50 years.

Barack Obama Remove cuba from state Sponsor of Terror List
1. President Barack Obama will remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, the White House announced
2. Cuba will officially be removed from the terror list 45 days after the president’s message was sent to Congress.

Canada, India unveil uranium supply deal, bury nuclear discord
1. The Canadian government unveiled a C$350 million ($280 million) deal to supply uranium fuel to India, formally ending a lengthy dispute that began after New Delhi used Canadian technology to develop a nuclear bomb.
2. Canadian producer Cameco Corp will supply 7.1 million pounds (3.22 million kilos) of uranium concentrate to India over the next five years.
3. Canada banned exports of uranium and nuclear hardware to India in the 1970s after New Delhi used Canadian technology to develop a nuclear bomb.

Nuclear-capable Agni-III ballistic missile test-fired successfully
1. India today successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable Agni-III ballistic missile with a strike range of more than 3,000 km from Wheeler Island off the Odisha coast.
2. The indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher at launch complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Wheeler Island by the Army at about 0955 hrs, defence sources said.
3. The Agni-III missile is powered by a two-stage solid propellant system. With a length of 17 metres, the missile’s diameter is 2 metres and launch weight is around 50 tonnes.

Dr. Mohan Kumar appointed as Ambassador of India to France
1. Dr. Mohan Kumar on 15 April 2015 was appointed as the next Ambassador of India to France.
2. He is a 1981-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.
3. Prior to this assignment, he was serving as Ambassador of India to Bahrain and he will succeed Arun Kumar who was appointed Ambassador to the United States.

NASA spacecraft beams back its first colour image of Pluto
1 NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft has sent back its first colour image of the dwarf planet Pluto and its largest moon Charon, after more than nine years of travelling through the solar system.

Chemical scientists Susanta Lahiri and Kattesh V Katti received Hevesy Medal Award 2015
1. Professors Susanta Lahiri and Kattesh V. Katti received Hevesy Medal Award 2015 for their outstanding contributions in the fields of radio and nuclear chemistry.
2. The awards were presented to them at the Tenth International Conference on Methods and Applications of Radio-analytical Chemistry held in USA.

Fourth Lighthouse Museum of India to be opened at Kannur, Kerala
1. The fourth Lighthouse Museum of India will be opened at Kannur, Kerala to promote lighthouse tourism. The Directorate General of Lighthouse and Lightships (DGLL) announced on 14 April 2015 to open the museum by the end of April 2015.
2. The other three lighthouses museums have been set up at Alappuzha in Kerala and Chennai and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu.

BHEL and Russian firm INTMA inked MoU to set power plant in Kazakhstan
1. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Russian company INTMA (Indiana Chapter of the National Tooling and Machining Association) on 15 April 2015 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a gas-based power project in Kazakhstan.
2. According to the MoU, the two parties will Endeavour to assist each other in the implementation of the deal.  
3. The MoU aims to set forth a path to combine the BHEL's competence in design and manufacturing of power plants and INTMA's strength in handling EPC contracts so as to bid and execute projects of mutual interest in Russia and Kazakhstan.
