Himachal Pradesh assembly launched India’s
first E-Vidhan Mobile applications
1. Himachal Pradesh
Government on 30 March 2015 launched part one of E-Vidhan Mobile apps.
2. E-Vidhan Mobile
apps will enable all 68 members of state assembly to get the entire House
business on their smartphones
and tablets, laid in the House 45 minutes before the beginning of the daily proceedings.
3. With this
Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha became the first state assembly in the country to
launch this app to
facilitate smart-working.

Inaugurates Geophysical Observatory in Port Blair
1. Union
Minister of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan Inaugurates
Geophysical Observatory at Shoal Bay in Port Blair .
2. Union
Minister Inaugurated the Multi-Parametric Geophysical Observatory set up by the
Indian Institute of Geomagnetism at Shoal Bay No. 8 in Port Blair on Andaman
& Nicobar Islands
3. The
move made by the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) for setting up of the
Geophysical Observatory here in the Islands, considering that these Islands lie
in Seismic Zone 5 and that the setting up of such Laboratory is going to be
immensely beneficial to the Islands.
Central Government agreed to provide
Special Financial Support for the new Capital of Andhra Pradesh
1. In
consonance with Section 94(3) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014,
the Government of India has agreed to provide Special Financial Support for
essential facilities for the new Capital of Andhra Pradesh including construction
of Raj Bhavan, State Secretariat, State Assembly and High Court etc.
2. Accordingly,
the Ministry of Finance, Government of India has approved Rs. 1500 crore by way
of Budgetary Support for providing support to new Capital of Andhra Pradesh.
3. This
would include Rs. 1000 crore for support to essential amenities for
the new Capital of Andhra Pradesh for which necessary approval has been given
to Ministry of Urban Development.
4. Another
Rs. 500 crore has been approved which would be spent exclusively for construction
of Raj Bhavan, State Secretariat, State Assembly and High Court etc. in the new
Capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Dr. Jitendra Singh announces ‘Brahmaputra
Study Center’ for Guwahati University

Delhi Government bans all forms of chewable
tobacco
1. Delhi
Government Banned sale, purchase, storage and manufacturing of all forms of
chewable tobacco including ‘Gutkha’ and pan masala containing tobacco is banned
in the national capital.
2. Delhi
Government has decided to run campaigns on a large scale to educate the masses
about the ban and harmful effect of chewable tobacco.
Centre Sanctions Rs 200 crores for Flood
Hit Jammu and Kashmir
1. Centre
sanctioned Rs. 200 crore for immediate rescue and relief operations in
flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.
2. Central
government has granted Rs 200 crore as immediate relief fund for floods.”
3. Out
of this, Rs. 25 crore has been released in favour of Divisional Commissioner,
Kashmir, and Rs. 10 crore in favour of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
Indian Pilots may be subjected to
Psychometric tests
1. Pilots
of Indian air carriers may now be subjected to mid-term psychometric tests to
ensure that they are mentally fit to fly, following the deliberate crashing of
German airliner by the co-pilot last week.

3. These
Airlines employ well over 3,000 pilots who are subjected to such tests at the
point of induction but there are no subsequent appraisals of their mental
state.
4. They,
however, undergo physical fitness tests every six months.
5. The
government is mulling “mid-term” psychometric tests in the backdrop of the
action of Andreas Lubitz, co-pilot of a Germanwings flight last week who
crashed the Airbus A320 plane into the French Alps killing himself and 149
other

present, pilots undergo six-monthly regular medical check-ups which includes
complete eye examination, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), ECG, audiometry, lipid
profile.
7. Besides
this, the pilots have to undergo complete body check-up every two years which
includes ultrasound of all vital organs including kidney and liver and
Treadmill test.
8. National
carrier Air India has made it mandatory for all its pilots to undergo a
psychometric tests at the time of induction whereas it was made mandatory for
cabin crew after the Mangalore crash in May 2010.
Arunima sinha will climb Australia Mount
Kosciuszko next month
1. Four
years after a life-shattering accident in which she lost a leg, 26-year old
Arunima Sinha will be heading next month to Australia to climb its highest peak
Kosciuszko after having climbed the world’s highest summit Mt Everest.
2. Sinha,
who was awarded Padma Shri on 30 March 2015 .
3. On
her way to appear for CISF induction test, the national level volleyball player
was pushed from a running Padmavat Express by thieves in 2011 as she resisted
their attempts to snatch her purse and chain. The
train coming from the other side crushed her leg which had to be amputated
below the knee as a result.
4. Within
two years of the accident, Sinha was able to climb Mt Everest in 17 hours after
receiving training from famous mountaineer Bachendri Pal.
NTPC starts its first Hydro Project In
Himachal pradesh
1. NTPC,
India’s largest power producer commissioned the 200 MW unit of its Koldam
project in Himachal Pradesh.
2. NTPC
debuts in hydro generation by commissioning a 200 MW unit of Koldam hydro power
project.
3. The
total size of the project is 800 MW.
4. With
this, the total installed capacity of NTPC has become 44,003 MW.
5. The
construction of the Koldam project, which began in 2003, got delayed due to
various environment and geological hurdles leading to a cost over-run of about
20 per cent from the approved investment of Rs 4,527 crore.
6. The
Koldam project will supply electricity to Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan,
Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh.
7. NTPC
is also executing three more hydroelectric projects -
Tapovan
Vishnugad (520 MW) and Lata Tapovan (171 MW) in Uttarakhand and Singrauli Small
Hydro Project (8 MW) in Uttar Pradesh
New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori
announces retirement from international cricket
1. New
Zealand cricketer and former captain Daniel Vettori has announced his
retirement from international cricket.
2. He
made this announcement after playing last match in ICC World Cup 2015 Final
against Australia. Earlier in 2011, he had retired from Tests and Twenty-20s
cricket format.
3. He
had started his international cricket career in 1996–97 at the age of 18. He
was the youngest player to represent New Zealand in Test cricket.
4. Vettori
had captained New Zealand’s International cricket team from 2007 to 2011.
RINL launches its first green project to
generate 120 MW
1. Rashtriya
Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) the corporate entity of Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) on
31 March 2015 launched
novel green project that can generate 120 MW power.
2. It is first
of its kind green project launched in Indian Steel Industry that can generate
pollution free captive
power using 100 per cent Blast Furnace Gas and Coke Oven Gas.
3. The plant
consists of state-of-the-art Boiler Turbo Generator (BTG) Power Plant
technology in order to efficiently
utilise the surplus Blast Furnace Gas (BFG).
4. The plant is
built at a cost of Rs 676 crore.
5. Presently,
RINL is having three turbo generators each 60 MW (180 MW) capacity and two
turbo generators
of 67.5 each (135MW) capacity. Thus, having total captive power generation
capacity of 315 MW.
